In recent years, Midge Ure has spent most of his time performing live and has not had the opportunity to devote himself fully to music production in the studio. That's why "A Man of Two Worlds" is his first album of new material in 12 years.
It was worth the wait: the album is an impressive collection of outstanding music, divided into two clearly distinct parts. The first half, "World One: Music", consists of eight instrumental tracks, while the second half, "World Two: Songs", contains eight vocal tracks.
This concept was partly inspired by the time Midge spent listening to instrumental music while hosting THE SPACE on Scala Radio during lockdown. Listening to music that rarely finds a platform on mainstream radio, he began to create something without lyrics - music where the melodies have to speak for themselves
The eight vocal tracks that make up the second part of the album were written as the world opened up again - a world that in many ways has become more divided, much harder and less empathetic. Although they follow on atmospherically from the previous instrumental pieces, these songs are extremely reduced and meditative. Despite their subtlety - some of the tracks deal with the fragility of human existence - many of them reflect Midge Ure's concern about the increasing disharmony in today's world.
