A New Conception (remastered) (180g) [LP]

Saxophonist and flautist Sam Rivers began his collaboration with the Blue Note label in the mid-1960s with two remarkable albums ("Fuchsia Swing Song" and "Contours"), on which he presented exclusively his own compositions.

The jazz world was all the more surprised when the avant-gardist followed this up in 1966 with "A New Conception", a recording on which he interpreted only standards in an astonishingly original and relaxed manner. This was to remain the only album of its kind until his death in 2011, which makes this recording all the more appealing and precious.
