In 1959, "Ben Webster & Associates" was the third and final project for which producer Norman Granz brought the two tenor sax icons Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins together in the studio. Budd Johnson, from whom Ben Webster had received his first saxophone lessons in his youth in Kansas City, joined them as the third tenor player in the relaxed, swinging exchange.
