BENGALI is a sweeping, escapist adventure story about three British officers of the 41st Regiment of the Bengal Lancers stationed in northwest India. The film was loosely adapted from the 1930 novel of the same name by Major Francis Yates-Brown. The Lancers played a prominent role in the past as defenders of India's northwestern frontier, particularly the Khyber Pass area, which was inhabited by rebellious tribesmen.
