Birdly Serenade [2LP]

Saxophonist David Murray has been at the forefront of the international jazz scene for 50 years. With his ensembles - from his Octet to the World Saxophone Quartet and his Big Band - he has combined modern jazz and avant-garde with influences from the entire spectrum of jazz. in 2025, he returns with his brand new quartet.

For his debut on Impulse! Records, Murray was inspired by music that is older than mankind: birdsong. "Birdly Serenade" was created at an artist retreat in the Adirondack Mountains, surrounded by lakes, forests and endless skies. The album was recorded at the famed Van Gelder Studio and features eight compositions written by Murray, two of which are performed by up-and-coming guest vocalist Ekep Nkwelle.
