On his fourth and last album for Tom Wilson's Transition Records label, the young Donald Byrd presented himself in 1957 with a program consisting exclusively of relaxed swinging jazz standards. The trumpeter, who was soon to become one of the leading protagonists of hard bop and soul jazz, has rarely been heard with such a warm and atmospheric tone as on this quartet session.
