New album from legendary bassist Bill Wyman, who was bass guitarist for the Rolling Stones from 1962 to 1993 (and returned briefly in 2023), and as bassist for Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings since 1997. "Drive My Car" is Bill Wyman's ninth solo album and first since "Back To Basics" (2015).
The album contains 10 songs and two additional tracks on the CD. In addition to covers of Bob Dylan's "Thunder on the Mountain", Taj Mahal's "Light Rain" and John Prine's "Ain't Hurtin' Nobody", Drive My Car contains five songs that Wyman wrote or co-wrote himself.
"It's not something I do every day, but sometimes I just see a guitar in the corner of the room, pick it up and play around on it, and it clicks," Wyman said in a press release announcing the album.
"Drive My Car" was recorded in Wyman's home studio with guitarist Terry Taylor and drummer Paul Beavis. "I think the biggest influence on the whole album is J.J. Cale, his laid-back groove has always appealed to me," says Wyman.
