Aeris is the ninth album on ECM New Series to focus on the dynamic and expressive music of Erkki-Sven Tüür. Olari Elts, a longtime champion of Tüür's music, conducts the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in riveting, intensely focused performances of Phantasma, De Profundis and Tüür's Tenth Symphony ÆRIS, a powerful drama of constantly shifting energies and interactions, scored for horn quartet and orchestra. The symphony consists of four movements that merge seamlessly into one another. Tüür: "Each movement expresses a different constellation in the relationship between the soloist ensemble and the orchestra. Sometimes their motifs spread out like imitations in the orchestra, which begin to change and gradually develop a life of their own ..." The album was recorded at the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn.
