Enemy's new live album, their fourth release, captures a decade of fearless exploration and deep musical connection between pianist Kit Downes, bassist Petter Eldh and drummer James Maddren.
The reunion with Edition Records after three albums on Edition, ECM and We Jazz was recorded during a two-day residency at Bird's Eye in Basel. It's an ambitious retrospective and forward-looking statement, featuring tracks from each album while presenting new material that reflects the evolution of the Enemy sound - a balance between intensity and impressive, refined subtlety.
Kit Downes' remarkable growth in profile has only enriched the trio's dynamic and given Enemy's sound an ever-increasing lyrical character. Petter Eldh and James Maddren, both closely associated with Edition through Eldh's Project Drums and Maddren's numerous Edition collaborations, add their own layers of innovation and depth to this release. Together they create an electrifying conversation that is both intricate and instinctive - this is Enemy at their strongest, capturing a decade of artistic synergy and setting the stage for the next chapter.
