Happy Girl (180g) [LP]

Happy Girl from 1965 is one of the earliest MPS albums and a real collector's item. It impressively shows why Nathan Davis was one of the great jazz musicians of his time - even if he never received widespread recognition, as he concentrated on his teaching activities at the University of Pittsburgh, where he founded an important jazz studies program.

Recorded in Villingen during his time in Europe, Davis is accompanied by a top lineup: Woody Shaw (trumpet), Larry Young (piano), Jimmy Woode (bass) and Billy Brooks (drums). Davis shines on tenor and soprano saxophone and flute.

There are five Davis compositions, Shaw's "Theme From Zoltan" and a standard - Shaw does not play on the first two pieces. Remastered by Grammy-nominated sound engineer Christoph Stickel, the album is now released on high-quality AAA MPS vinyl - an intensive sound journey through Davis' versatile playing.

This record has not been available for decades! One of the very early records in the MPS catalog and a collector's item for a long time. Reissued for the first time.
