After Wilco's highly acclaimed album "Cousin" from 2023, the musicians drew on unfinished material from these sessions for the production of "Hot Sun Cool Shroud".
Working again with sound engineer Tom Schick, the band created six tracks that expand the sound of Cousin.
According to Jeff Tweedy, they have created "a summertime-after-dark kind of feeling". The songs set a summer day to music, which begins with warming morning sunshine, its afternoon warmth swells to oppressive heat, which in turn fades into a pleasantly cool breeze towards evening.
