According to Imagine Dragons, "Origins" was intended from the outset as a sequel or a kind of "partner album" to its "Evolve" predecessor - because they really wanted to continue the sound experiments from the third album. "It's about searching for new regions of sound, definitely, but also about not losing sight of our roots," says singer Dan Reynolds, who is supported as usual by Wayne Sermon (guitar), Ben McKee (bass) and Daniel Platzman (drums). "When we get going and get creative, there are no boundaries for us, no rules. We find it much more exciting to make music that is always different... we want to surprise ourselves with something new."

To capture the multi-layered, kaleidoscopic and kinetically charged sound of "Origins", Imagine Dragons relied on producers Joel Little (Lorde, Khalid), Mattman & Robin (Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen) and John Hill (Florence + the Machine). While Imagine Dragons bring together everything from rock to hip-hop, from pop to folk influences and are indeed always taking new directions, they never lose sight of one element that has always formed the core of their sound: Lyrics that immediately blow you away because they are so honest, Reynolds & Co. don't mince their words - and despite this unembellished perspective, they always manage to land on an inspiring, optimistic message.
