With its mixture of swinging hard bop, beautiful ballads, African rhythms and blues, the album "In Memory Of", recorded in 1964, clearly stood out from the very successful soul jazz recordings that tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine had previously made for the Blue Note label.

This could have been the reason why it was not released immediately, but fifteen years later. Because in terms of musical quality, this album, which Turrentine recorded with a great sextet, was in no way inferior.
