Into Despair [CD]

Over the years, Distant has firmly established itself as one of the defining forces of the European deathcore scene. The Dutch-Slovak band not only maintains a relentless touring schedule but also continually pushes its creative boundaries, refining and evolving its sound with every release.

For “Into Despair,” guitarist Nouri Yetgin took an ambitious step by expanding his role within the band: he educated himself in production and sound engineering and ultimately took charge of a large part of the creative process. Supported by fellow Dutch producer Roelof Klop, the band took a hands-on approach. “After spending months redefining our approach to songwriting, we built a brand-new digital guitar amplifier from scratch ourselves and handled the entire mixing and mastering process to push our sound to the absolute limit,” they explain. The result is an album that feels visceral and unfiltered—raw, devastating, and uncompromising. “It’s the perfect soundtrack for our lyrics, which channel our anger at the corruption, greed, and systemic misconduct that are poisoning this world. It’s pure passion and aggression, captured in its unfiltered form.”

Unlike the fantasy-themed lyrics of their previous albums, Distant now turn their gaze to the stark reality of the modern world. “Into Despair” explores deeply human concerns—our fear of death, the burden of personal loss, and the grief inherent in our existence— while at the same time scrutinizing societal illusions, such as the false sense of freedom fueled by the digital age.
