The album that started it all - Jaco's first solo album. Includes a stunning rendition of Charlie Parker's Donna Lee and two of the tracks that changed bass playing forever: Continuum and Portrait of Tracy.
The thin man, 1.81m tall, described himself as the best bass player in the world. He was not alone in this opinion, and his first album in 1976 seems to confirm it. "Jaco Pastorius" is probably the best electric bass album of all time.
Jaco Pastorius was widely known for his skills as an electric bassist. He died in 1987 at the age of 35 after a violent incident in a Fort Lauderdale bar. This self-titled album was Pastorius' solo debut and was originally released in 1976.
The bass tracks are excellent and impressively demonstrate how skillful and talented Jaco was. His virtuosic solos go in a variety of directions, making this album a glorious debut. The fact that he was only 24 years old when this album was recorded makes it even more impressive. The American jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius recorded several albums with the influential band Weather Report and several solo albums. He is praised as one of the best electric bassists of all time.
