Joni Mitchell introduces "Joni's Jazz", a passion project that has been years in the making. This career-spanning collection features recordings selected by Mitchell that reflect the profound influence of jazz on her music.

"Joni's Jazz" comprises 61 tracks, including studio recordings, live performances, rare alternative recordings and material spanning several decades and record labels, including two previously unreleased demos from 1980.

The set features contributions from some of Mitchell's most important jazz colleagues, including Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock and Charles Mingus. Mitchell, who described Shorter as her favorite colleague, is dedicating the collection to him after his death in 2023.

Covering nearly all eras of her career, the collection includes selections from "Songs to a Seagull," "The Hissing of Summer Lawns," "Hejira," "Mingus," "Turbulent Indigo," "Both Sides Now" (which won a GRAMMY® Award in 2001) and more. It also includes her guest appearances on projects such as Hancock's GRAMMY® Award-winning album "River: The Joni Letters."

Throughout the collection, the music follows Mitchell's artistic growth - from the rhythmic layering of "Harry's House / Centerpiece" to the bold experimentation of "The Jungle Line," the narrative scale of "Paprika Plains" and the airy, improvisational feel of "A Chair in the Sky."

The program draws from more than five decades of Mitchell's recordings, dating back to 1968 when she recorded "Marcie" from "Song to a Seagull." The most recent recording is her interpretation of "Summertime", recorded live at the Newport Folk Festival in 2023. It was Mitchell's first full-length concert in over two decades - a powerful return that resonated around the world.

"Joni's Jazz" is a sonic self-portrait of an artist who has spent a lifetime exploring jazz - never imitating, always inventing. In the 2024 liner notes for "Joni Mitchell Archives - Vol. 4", she joked: "When people ask me for my favorite album, it will be 'Joni's Jazz'."
