Adderley and Evans played together for almost a year in one of the most important formations of contemporary jazz: the Miles Davis Sextet of 1958. For both men, this was a very formative time, which was soon followed by enormous individual success. This memorable reunion in 1962 was Cannonball's idea; the group is joined by the rhythm section of the Modern Jazz Quartet: Percy Heath and Connie Kay. In a remarkable demonstration of their musical range and sensibility, the buoyant Adderley and the introspective Evans effortlessly tread a middle ground that showcases them both to great effect.
