After years of anticipation from fans around the world, the legendary ZZ Top are releasing their thunderous blues rock album "La Futura". This album promises to attract attention for a number of reasons.
The first single "Gotsa Get Paid" opens the album with the band's trademark raw guitar sound. The track is an interpretation of a rap song originally by DJ DMD and rappers Lil' Keke and Fat Pete. There's certainly a rap element to the lyrics, but after a little ZZ fusion, what we have is a rousing blues rock record.
Other singles worth mentioning are "Chartreuse" and "Consumption". Both tracks utilize basic blues rhythms, topped with the recognizable raspy vocal line. One track that particularly stands out on the album is "Over You". It changes tempo and takes a route the band has rarely taken. With less distortion and a more melodic melody, it's certainly a good example of how to broaden the album. The lyrics alone have a somber quality to them, with a slightly deeper and darker character, but the song doesn't sound vulnerable at all, but rather resilient.
