After six years without an album, MGMT are finally back with their new opus "Loss Of Life". The duo's sound is somewhat more reduced than on previous works, but at its core it is more optimistic than ever before.

The indie electronic band was founded in 2002 by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser and released their epochal debut album "Oracular Spectacular" in 2007. One of the most influential albums of the 00s, it sold over two million copies worldwide and was certified gold or platinum in over ten countries. It gave the world evergreen hits such as "Kids", "Electric Feel" and "Time To Pretend", which have been streamed billions of times to this day.

Since then, MGMT have managed to take unexpected creative turns with every new record and remain culturally relevant. Naturally also with "Loss Of Life". The musical framework was created during the pandemic. However, both musicians agreed that they didn't want to make a heavy, depressive album, even if the title might suggest otherwise. Instead, the power of love is a recurring theme in the songs. MGMT's electro-pop sound with its colorful dabs of psych fits this approach perfectly.

For the perfect sound, the duo once again relied on producers Patrick Wimberley (Solange, Lil Yachty and others) and Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Interpol and others). MGMT, on the other hand, are entering new territory with the first feature guest of their career. Christine And The Queens contributed vocals to the album highlight "Dancing In Babylon", which also featured Wilco guitarist Nels Cline.
