The impressive solo debut album by Sydney Minsky-Sargeant, head of the alt-electro band Working Men's Club.
"Lunga" is the impressive solo debut album from Sydney Minsky-Sargeant, the head of alt-electro band Working Men's Club. While Working Men's Club's catalog reinterprets industrial post-punk for the indie dancefloor, "Lunga" is an introspective record on which Minsky Sargeant reflects on growing up and the time between childhood and adulthood.
The tracks on "Lunga" were written over several years in the breaks between WMC commitments and then recorded with Alex Greaves at "The Nave" in Leeds. The songs are reflective and searching, with simple choruses often repeated over sparse guitar lines. Minsky Sargeant plays the majority of the instruments himself, creating an enchanting world with delicate drum fills, eerie cello and subtle synths.
Minsky Sargeant thought he had created a new word when he titled the record - something that sums up the self-questioning mood of the record and the exploration of man's relationship with nature. That "Lunga" turned out to be the name of an uninhabited Scottish island - rugged, isolated and in constant motion - is testament to a unique artistic vision.
