On his new album "Every Loser", Iggy Pop is finally doing what he does best again: rocking straight ahead, without frills and with a good dose of dirt.
The last few years and releases have been rather experimental for the Godfather of Punk. First the extremely successful collaboration with Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age on "Post Pop Depression". Then a brief interlude with the electronic band Underworld. And finally his last album "Free", which had many a surprise in store for long-time fans, from ambient to jazz.
All Iggy fans will now be able to agree on "Every Loser", as it combines all the trademarks that are traditionally associated with the 75-year-old. Various old friends helped the former The Stooges frontman to return to his old form. Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers helps out on drums and their former guitarist Josh Klinghoffer also does the honors. Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver has strapped on the bass. And you can even hear Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away last year, on "Every Loser".
Producer Andrew Watt, with whom Iggy has written many songs, is also likely to have played a big part in Iggy Pop's new old sound. Watt had already shown a similar golden touch for the right songs and the right sound on Ozzy Osbourne's "Ordinary Man"
