For almost 25 years, Opeth have been an immovable force that has consistently refused to follow any genre rules or other conventions, instead forging their very own path with their unique sound somewhere between metal and progressive. This is also the case on the new album, for which the Swedes have chosen the title "Pale Communion".
Since their formation in Stockholm in 1990, the band around singer, guitarist and songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt has been one of the most unconventional combos in heavy music, whose members from the Swedish death metal scene, which was in full bloom at the time, have never allowed themselves to be pigeonholed or limited to a single musical genre since their first recordings.
Opeth's creative driving force has always been the will to express their unbridled love of music. And they have done so in every conceivable way, weaving the most diverse influences into their trademark metallic sound. Ever since the release of "Still Life" in 1999 (on which they showed a spiritual and professional connection with prog icon Steven Wilson - a connection that is still unbroken today), Opeth have been in a league of their own when it comes to the groundbreaking crossover of metal with various non-genre styles.
"Pale Communion" is the eleventh studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth.
