Eumir Deodato de Almeida achieved his international breakthrough in 1973 with "Prelude". The funk version of "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" was a great success in England and the United States, earning him a Grammy and other awards.

But even before that, the young Deodato had already cemented his status in Brazil as one of the country's best musicians. In the mid-sixties, when he wasn't working with the likes of Roberto Menescal, Joao Donato and Marcos Valle, Deodato recorded a series of albums with his lesser-known instrumental samba-jazz and bossa nova ensemble Os Catedráticos.

Producer and arranger Deodato is definitely not a one-trick pony. Before CTI decided to give him the spotlight, he had already worked with some of the best in the business: Frank Sinatra, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Wes Montgomery. The Grammy-winning title track, a Latin arrangement of the theme from "2001: A Space Oddissey", catapulted "Prelude" to the top of the charts and made it the best-selling album in the CTI catalog. But the other songs can also hold their own. Deodato's arrangements are lush, his Rhodes playing is light, elegant and funky. "Prelude" is a jewel from the CTI treasure trove.

"Prelude" is available in a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on yellow and green marbled vinyl.
