Few orchestral works require as much precision as Richard Strauss' "Alpine Symphony". The Decca recording by Sir Georg Solti and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra was made in 1979 and was one of Decca's last analog productions before the switch to digital technology. Solti knew Strauss personally and studied the composer's recordings before recording this uniquely authentic performance. Recorded by Decca at the Herkulessaal in Munich in September 1979, the original ¼-inch two-track stereo tapes were mastered by Rainer Maillard and edited by Sidney C. Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios.
