Nonesuch Records is proud to announce Brad Mehldau's "Ride into the Sun," a poignant songbook album featuring the music of the late Elliott Smith.
Mehldau, hailed as one of the most influential living jazz pianists, interprets ten of Smith's songs, complemented by four of his own compositions inspired by Smith's work. The album also includes interpretations of Big Star's "Thirteen" and Nick Drake's "Sunday", whom Mehldau regards as Smith's "visionary godfather".
With an impressive line-up including Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear), Chris Thile (Punch Brothers), Matt Chamberlain and a chamber orchestra conducted by Dan Coleman, this recording offers a unique blend of jazz and contemporary songwriting. With previously released tracks "Tomorrow Tomorrow" and "Better Be Quiet Now", "Ride into the Sun" promises to be a deeply moving and essential addition to any music collection.
