On Blood On the Silver Screen, the polymath combines her conservatory-educated classical music skills as a musician, producer and composer with her fearless and bombastic stage persona to create her most real music yet: the absolute Sasami pop album.
After establishing herself with the balanced melancholy of her 2019 self-titled debut album, Sasami went for volume and control on Squeeze (2022) - and toured with a metal band - but her aim for Blood On the Silver Screen was to express her truth with conviction through song. Working with co-producers Jenn Decilveo and Rostam, and with Sasami as the sole songwriter, each track on Blood On the Silver Screen captures a different theme of love, sex, power and embodiment.
"Pop music is like fuel," says Sasami. "It's simply invigorating." Sasami turns away from the current pop zeitgeist and towards the pop of the late 1980s and the 2010s, such as Britney Spears' Femme Fatale and Lady Gaga's Born This Way, but also Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and Sia. She was influenced by modern country storytelling that mixes vulnerability with humor, but Prince, Japanese city pop and the stadium-sized, denim-clad iconography of Bruce Springsteen were also on the mood board.
