Guðnadóttir delivers a bold and emotionally charged score that combines orchestral grandeur with raw punk energy, capturing the sweeping romance, dangerous sensuality and unflinching humanity of the film.
Director, screenwriter and producer Maggie Gyllenhaal reflects on the creative process behind the music: "It was difficult to find the right tone for the music in this movie because it had to be both punk, not as a genre but as a feeling, and romantic. Deeply romantic and emotional, it had to be all of those things. Also, we had to take these monsters, these iconic monsters, absolutely seriously. It's not camp. It was really hard to find the right tone for the music. There was no temp music that fit the language of the movie, so Hildur really had to invent it. And I think she found this mix of real punk and deep, deep romanticism. We had Lee Ranaldo playing wild Sonic Youth-style guitars overlaid with a full orchestra. We had David Murray playing saxophone alongside Fever Ray. None of these elements would have worked on their own, it had to be a mixture. This movie is a mesh of genres and sounds, and the music had to reflect that."
Karin Dreijer from Fever Ray says: "I am very grateful that Maggie Gyllenhaal invited me to this project! I was already a fan before, but when I read the manuscript for the first time, I was thrilled. The language of 'The Bride!' is poetic, entertaining and magical, just the way I like it."
From Maggie Gyllenhaal (Oscar-nominated screenwriter/director of "The Lost Daughter") and starring Oscar-nominee Jessie Buckley and Oscar-winner Christian Bale comes "The Bride!" A bold, iconoclastic interpretation of one of the world's most compelling stories.
Lonely "Frank" (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask pioneering scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a mate for him. The two bring a murdered young woman back to life, and "The Bride" (Buckley) is born. What then follows exceeds all their expectations: Murder! Obsession! A radical cultural movement! And lawless lovers in a wild and explosive romance!
