In 1960s Dublin, three friends Lily (Smith), Eileen (Bates) and Dolly (Agnes O'Casey) have won a trip to Lourdes, much to the dismay of their partners whom the women will leave behind during their trip. Before they are set to travel, however, the group are shocked at the arrival of Chrissie (Linney) who has returned to Ireland for her mother's funeral after years away in America.
