Peter Erskine and the Vienna JAM Music Lab All-Stars celebrate the music of two legendary Viennese composers who, after moving to Hollywood in 1929 and 1934, changed the dynamics of film by setting the standards for film music. Through their work on Gone with the Wind, King Kong and many other films, they have had a decisive influence on popular culture ever since.
Erskine first came into contact with music in the late 70s when he was on tour with Weather Report. He heard Joe Zawinul play a beautiful melody and learned that it was by Korngold, a fellow Viennese composer. Since then, he has been searching for copies and recordings. With his artist-in-residency at Vienna's top university JAM Music Lab, his wish to reinterpret this music in an improvised jazz setting finally came true.
"Erskine and the Jam Music Lab All-Stars demonstrate virtuosity, versatility and a keen attention to detail...creating a fitting tribute to the most influential figures in 20th century music." (New York City Jazz Record)
