Pianist Duke Pearson began his solo career with Blue Note in 1959 with two albums on which he almost exclusively interpreted standards in a classical trio format.
Five years later, he returned to the label in a much more mature form with "Wahoo!", on which he was now also able to demonstrate his talents as a composer (five of the six numbers were written by him) and band leader of a modern hard bop sextet.
