Big Big Train, the award-winning progressive rock band, release their 16th studio album. "Woodcut" is a milestone for the international group, whose members hail from England, Scotland, Italy, the USA, Sweden and Norway, as it is their first complete concept album.
"The story isn't set in a specific time, it's about an artist struggling with life," begins founding member Gregory Spawton. "He goes for a walk, finds a piece of heartwood and creates something that he feels is beautiful and unique. Maybe it's a dream or maybe it's reality, but he suddenly finds himself in this Narnia-like woodcut world."
"Woodcut" is a collaborative effort from the band, with impressive contributions from all seven members. Frontman Alberto Bravin took on the production: "This time it's a kind of new beginning for the band. 'Woodcut' is a big step forward for us," he comments. The album features a striking cover design by Dorset-based artist Robin Mackenzie - a black and white woodcut, which of course comes from a woodcut that the band commissioned from him especially for the album.
The album is available as a limited CD + Blu-ray edition with extensive liner notes and Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound mixes by Shawn Dealey from Sweetwater Studios. It will also be released as a classy gatefold double LP (180g) with embossed cover, as a standard CD in a jewel case and digitally in stereo and Dolby Atmos.
