After a turbulent decade in which he was more often to be found in prison than on stage or in a recording studio, tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon began an astonishing career renaissance with a new contract with Blue Note Records. With the albums "Doin' Allright" and "Dexter Calling", recorded just three days apart in May 1961 in Rudy Van Gelder's recording studio in Englewood Cliffs, he underpinned his return to old form with flying colors. Superbly supported by a fine quartet, the playful tenor saxophonist switched effortlessly from energetic swing to breathtaking ballads on "Dexter Calling".
Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on gatefold sleeve, padded inner sleeve.
