Edgar Varèse: "Arcana" (Deluxe) (180g) [LP]

Zubin Mehta's sonically spectacular 1971 album of orchestral works by Edgar Varèse, recorded with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was praised by Gramophone for its "virtuosic playing" and "exemplary recording". Mehta turns 90 this year, and this recording - with its stunning artwork - reminds us of Mehta in his prime, when he was young and vibrant and conquering the international stage thanks to the stunning recordings produced by Decca in LA. Recorded by Decca at Royce Hall, Los Angeles, in April 1971, the original ¼-inch two-track stereo tapes were mastered by Rainer Maillard and edited by Sidney C. Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios.
