His music was always spontaneous, rousing, funky and full of energy, yet Blue Note legend Horace Silver only released a single live album during his lifetime.
That is about to change! In August 1965, the pianist shone with a particularly innovative line-up at the Penthouse jazz club in Seattle, with Woody Shaw on trumpet, Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Teddy Smith on bass and Roger Humphries on drums.
The recording, which has only just been discovered, is making its world premiere under the title "Silver in Seattle: Live at the Penthouse". Among other things, the band fires off boiling interpretations of Silver classics such as "Song For My Father", "Cape Verdean Blues" and "The Kicker".
