"Time Fades Away" was recorded on tour with the Stray Gators after the success of the 1972 album Harvest. It consists of then unreleased material and was released on vinyl in October '73.

It more or less disappeared from Young's catalog for decades, due to his general dissatisfaction with the rather spotty touring. Time Fades Away consists entirely of previously unreleased material.

The 50th anniversary release of Time Fades Away is a true tribute to a time that shaped music forever. in 1973, Young wrote songs that endure to this day, and boldly changed the way he presented them in person. It's a trademark of his that still endures.
