Robert Cray has carved out his own niche with his slick but powerful Memphis-style R&B/soul/blues stew, with the quality of the songs being well above average. Cray and keyboardist Jim Pugh - an increasingly important player in Cray's oeuvre - produced this 13th album.

While his if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it ethic has led to several Grammy wins, Cray clearly wanted to step out of the box he built, which led to a slightly different direction this time around. Those who enjoy the comfortable fit of his earlier work need not fear; there's plenty of the love-lost/found-R&B he's known for. But, for example, the slightly quirky Sly & The Family Stone horns of Cynthia Robinson and Jerry Martini on "Your Pal" give it an edgier approach, and on two tracks he's accompanied by the Turtle Island String Quartet, another unique addition. While not taking any radical steps, "Time Will Tell" shows Robert Cray taking a different path.

The album is now available on vinyl for the first time ever. "Time Will Tell" is released in a limited, numbered edition of 750 copies on 180-gram red vinyl and includes an insert.
