After announcing it with a handwritten note on Instagram and an intergalactic trailer entitled "Overtura", it's official in 2025: Coldplay are releasing their new, ninth studio album in 2021.
"Music Of The Spheres" is the follow-up to their number one double album "Everyday Life" from 2019, for which the pop giants worked with star producer Max Martin, who the band have already described as a "true wonder of the universe".
Chris Martin and co wrote and recorded twelve songs for it, including the lead single "Higher Power", which Coldplay released back in May, and the single "Coloratura", which was released in July. The next album single is due to follow in September.
The space theme runs through the entire album, starting with the title and the cover. Five of the twelve tracks on "Music Of The Spheres" are also represented this time by predominantly cosmic emojis. This might sound familiar to Coldplay fans. The band also showed the audio-visualizer video for their song "Higher Power", which they themselves described as a form of "extraterrestrial transmission", to French astronaut Thomas Pesquet from the European Space Agency on board the International Space Station ISS, even before it was officially released.
